I just pre-ordered Guild Wars (my preorder package comes in a week and the game ships april 26). It is a cool and innovative MMORPG that has free monthly fees. I chose it over WOW strickly because everyone is in one world, I need a game for summer that I may or may not play next fall, and it will save me another $50 and no loss if I stop. It is geared for more casual play but there is an extensive PVP system and guild system setup. I strongly encourage everyone to check it out at www.guildwars.com Some of the highlights are you will be able to switch secondary classes after a period of play to try something new and retain everything from the switch so you can go back if you don't like it. Some other highlights are that the world around you changes in game based on what quests you do and a userfriendly interface with fairly simplistic gameplay *you have 8 spell/ability slots unlike EQ and others which have like 20 and you can change those 8 before any mission.* There are tons of items to get and the level cap is 20 *this still takes awhile to get* so people can do more PVP and venture to get really rare items without spending months of playtime to have fun.

other highlights include that its an MMORPG without a monthly fee i believe that revenue will be replaced with many expansion packs? also, i think part of their original idea was to make an MMORPG thats skill-based, not like time-based (aka even a new character should be able to defeat a character thats been around for a while) it sounds so good... but i'm waiting to see how it turns out ;D

haha maybe but I don't want to shell out another $50 for 3 months of play and I will cut back when school starts again. I see your reason to look how it turns out but I am telling you right now this game is geared for casual gamers that want to do a MMORPG and yes it is based more on skill than time which is a good thing. Also yes they will have expansions but you never have to buy them.

I also heard the entire thing was Instance-type things, is that true?

The way it works is you get a party in town and they throw you in a streaming enviornment with enemies and you have to get to the end which is usually another town or checkpoint. There are no load times while in quests and everything is instantaneous with other people and enemies.

Unless the people in your party are total assholes, that is...

I agree ;D I played Guild Wars during the beta test and...compared to WoW, I'd choose WoW over Guild Wars any day. GW was laggy, the scenery was blocky...or might've been my video card... you can't jump -_- when you go out of town, there's no people around except for the people who are in your party. There's districts of each town which is really confusing and annoying when you're trying to find someone and I don't like how the quests are setup. The buttons to accept a quest are...icky, and the quest log isn't really that helpful. If you do play GW, MAKE AN ELEMENTALIST/RANGER, THEY OWN

As you just said, you played the Beta. The game has come A LONG way in a few months. All of the new stuff being shown now is vastly better than before and the graphics are now better than WOW. It does have its pros and cons like anything but its quest system has been totally revamped along with other things. I do agree that WOW is the best MMORPG out there but it is also highly addictive and more expensive than this game. As I said this game is for casual gamers that want to do a MMORPG. If you want to get really involved go with WOW. I personally don't have the time to do WOW especially next fall. I thought about getting it and playing it all summer but i realized I would have to cut majorly back once august hit (have to be back here aug 10 for RA training) and it would not be worth it in the long run to keep playing.

They're making a Diablo III?
Isn't blizzard right now, diverting all it's attention to WoW and it's realm/lag/bug issues?
