The solution to getting healing units levelled is to heal EVERY turn. Even if the character has 37/38 hp from levelling up, heal him anyway. If you can afford it, you should even use a Mend staff for extra experience. Also, use special staves like Torch, Unlock, and Sleep. If you do this, they level up FAST.

Well, that's what the arena is for - money, exp, money, and more exp. It takes forever for healers to get to level 20, but I always did it and it's just too great when they can use magic after you promote them.

I actually think healers are the fastest levelling characters. What other characters get 10-15 exp every turn?

But that only happens every couple of turns. If it's happening more often, then you're probably a lot higher level and your only getting 5-8 exp a kill.

Oh and another problem which I forgot to mention is that when I heal people that in turn increases the weapon level. I don't want to have 2 healers that have both mastered wands (LvS). This is because I want each unit to have different tome weapons-which you guys will find out about later on in the game.

I saved all three...however, took me a couple of tries to get past Novala's defenses. I never did see those spiders...
