I don't think they wanted an entirely new game boy. People would probably be mad since they would have given the GBA such a short life. It would also of taken longer to develop OR been the same hardwarewise.

Which doesn't make sense, because to be backlit, the lighting array must be aligned behind the entire screen. That also means that Nintendo either refused to or couldn't figure out how to create a transparent pixel matrix.   |

Yeah, the game gear had it, im sure it was because nintendo couldnt copy that 8 year old technology... How true. |

I'm getting the black one this Friday along with FF:T. I'm sick and tired of playing in bed after work(I get off at 6AM) with the light on and when I get tired and want to fall asleep I have to get up and turn the light off. Yes, I am lazy, but I can't wait for the built in light! OoOO.

I don't think GBA SP is bad... but I don't think i'l be getting one, just wait for the next-gen handheld or something.

I got a chrome one for my August bday. You really don't think you need the light, until you've played with it. I just can't go back to not lit up. But really, the main reason I got it is cuz my old regular GBA's R is busted and L only works half the time. If you don't already have a GBA, you should get one. If you do, it might not be worth the money. But the screen is 10x better.
