Well I finally figured out a way to play with someone in advance wars!
I've had a problem with it because the only person I know who also has it lives in another state...
See we figured because the fighting system in AW has ALMOST no random variables (just when the attack is 5%, then it could go either up or down), then we could just telegraph our moves over the internet and play... and that's what we're doing now!
We're halfway through our first game, we're on a simple map, with 1 HQ, 2 Facs each, nothing else, mountains between our bases with curvy paths on either side. I didn't have enough experience so even though we've traded tanks, he's still ahead of me, with I think 4 rockets, 1 medium tank, 2 mechs, and 2 regular tanks or something like that. I didn't know what was good in multiplayer so I went what I would do in single player... until I eventually wised up so my army looks funky with an Artillery, 2 tanks, a rocket, and a mech rushing with my left side (he's guarding it with an almost dead rocket, a live scary rocket, a mech, and some reinforcements next turn).
On my right side I have what I'd like to think is a chokehold with 2 rockets, a medium tank, 1/2 light tanks, and an APC. In the middle we each have a mech or 2, a chokehold there for each of us because we can't attack the other mechs w/o making it [plains vs. mountains], and rockets hitting us.
Any general tips or specific tips would be most welcome as we're extremely friendly rivals and I want to crush him!!!
EDIT: In case you cared some more info I forgot to give: Always clear weather, we're both Andy with ALMOST full power, we get 9k per turn because it's set to 3000 per city, no fog of war, and it's his turn.
another edit: if it matters to mind games or something we're both cautious... and i'm playing now....
EDIT: The next day..... hey, in case anyone out there cares, we're still playing. Ok, so it's my turn right now, over the last few turns, I was able to turn him back on the right side using 3 rockets and one apc to block like 3 tanks, a medium tank, and a rocket, he's running back to heal. On the left side he's been spending money every turn pumping out regular tanks and he's rushing down on me with 5 of them and a rocket, most of those slightly injured. The rocket cannot be displaced with my troops but I have one tank blocking the road, 2 mechs coming through the mountains that can hit his tank line, and one rocket. The bad news is that likely all will be wiped out next turn, or atleast the tank/rockets, the good news is that this turn i have a s***load of money, and can buy a medium tank/rocket, and I can additionally reinforce with a rocket+apc from the right side. My question is, should I get a rocket to combat his? Or should I get a medium tank to plow through his regular tanks. This turn I can maybe take out half of his tanks before he crushes my left side completely. Then I'lll be left to deal with 1 healthy rocket and 2 healthy tanks or so. And whatever reinforcements he's sending.
WOW, did anyone bother to read that? lol, whatever, i'm having fun keeping track of the history anyhow...
EDIT: 2 days later, heh I messed up, New years eve I was very busy. Ok, latest in my conquests, it's around day 25 or so, stuff has happened, here's what battlefield looks like now (from memory heh):
Well basically after I rushed, collapsed back, he followed trying to trap me in my base, ALMOST succeded but I was barely able to find a tiny 1-space, 1-turn, loophole in his net and did a "pre-emptive" strike with an MD tank I had been saving for just such an occasion. So basically on the left side I was able to create a trap with my rocket/tank/mech so he can't get through without serious backup. On my right side was his main blow, with 2 tanks, 1 MD tank, and 2 rockets. Well I rushed with 2 MD tanks and 2 rockets and now he cannot retaliate without basically losing both of his rockets and light tanks. So the fight goes on... it's his turn now, and he's getting a bunch of funds to support his troops, I'm not sure if he's going to rush my left with a wave of regular tanks and an MD tank with a rocket, or if he's going to fall back on his right (more likely) with about 3 light tanks, an md tank, and a rocket.
Ta-da, i'm not really asking for advice anymore because I don't think anyone reads this...
