Okay everyone, I've been lurking for a few weeks now. I just bought a Nintendo DS, picked up Tactics Ogre Knights of Lodis, and I've been hooked ever since. I played the original Ogre Battle on Super Famicom back in the day. I'm an American living in Japan right now. Anyway. I so want to play Advance Wars DS 2 after reading up on it! There are some other screen shots at the very bottom of this page. www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20071010/ninp.htmAn interesting thing in all the Japanese, they mention that many Japanese fans like the cartoony comical, non-serious feel of the original Advance Wars art, but the company learned that Advance Wars was very popular overseas, and games that target overseas players need to be less cute, and more dark/serious to sell. Which is why they took on this more gritty look for Advance Wars DS 2. I've never played either. But reading through these forums makes me REALLY want Advance Wars DS2, and I also want to try out Dual Strike for the DS as well! One thing question. I cannot find a release date for here in Japan anywhere! I heard you guys say the US release date is 1/28, does anyone know when the Japan release date is? I hope it doesn't get released under my nose when I'm not looking! This is a very useful site. Keep it up! Harvey from www.japannewbie.com

Sorry, no release date has been anounced for Japan yet. I'll let you know if I hear something - just keep checking this thread. Although, I doubt the release date is that far off from the other ones. You could always preorder it - after all, you speak english so it wouldn't be a problem. I've seen all those screenshots and videos. I hope you've seen the COs as well

You know though, I would expect that it would be released in Japan -before- the states. No? I mean. That's why I'm here! For the games! (Okay so that's not 100% true, but still.)
I'm sure even if I were to preorder it in the states and have it mailed to me in Japan, the Japanese version would likely be released before the US one was delivered. Bumming me out.
Yeah I saw the CO's, they look pretty slick!
I still want the game now though. I guess I'll have to tide myself over with Tactics Ogre until the release date!

I have a question. Advance Wars 1 and 2 were for GBA right? Advance Wars Dual Strike was for DS right? What is, Famicom Wars DS then? It's go 8 player Wifi. www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/awrj/Is this a remake of the original famicom wars for DS? Is this something I should own!?

lol, Famicom Wars DS is the name for AW:Dual Strike in Japan. There are 5 games that were released only in Japan. One of them is for the NES, one for SNES, two for Gameboy, and one on the Gameboy Color. More info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Wars

I see I see :-)
I'm starting to hunt used game shops for advance wars 1 and 2 for Game Boy Advance.
The lack of a release date for Days of Ruin in Japan is starting to get under my skin... Need Japanese release date!

Okay. I'm getting the feeling that the Japan release date is going to be significantly AFTER the US release date.
This is unacceptable.
Does anyone know anybody getting on a plan from the US to Osaka on Jan 21st? I need this person to buy Advance Wars before they go to the airport, and carry it with them on the flight over. I'll meet them at the airport.
Thanks for arranging this. I am awaiting the flight details.

Why not just preorder it from the US? I mean, I'll try my best to find someone who's heading to Japan during that week but I highly doubt I'll find someone.

The thing with preordering is, I'm not sure abotu the Japan release date. If the Japan release date is within 4-5 days of the US date... then I could buy it in Japan faster than I could have it shipped here using that pre-order. And a few days difference isn't worth the shipping cost.
Something inside me also wants to have the original Japanese dialog as well, rather than the translations. But that's minor.
Where are you guys pre-ordering it from? Any recommended shops?

I honestly don't pre-order anything unless it comes with some bonus freebies. The reason is that most of the time, the first week something is released one of the many retailers will usually have it $5-10 off or offer a freebie with purchase. For example Circuit city gave away mario kart skins when you bought Mario Kart DS the first week of release. Another example is the first week The Orange Box was released many retailers sold it for $10 off.

Hey guys. Was this game created FIRST in English, for the US market, and THEN translated in to Japanese for the Japanese market?
I heard that rumor over here. The other games were obviously Japanese first... but this one appears to have been done the other way. If that's true, I might order it from the US after it comes out instead of getting the Japanese version.
