I personally dont think so. I have a couple as of right now (Harvest Moon for PSX, Sonic for GC and GBA, Zelda OoA & OoS for GBC, Zelda MM, and Lunar 2). I like to have Stradegy guides for RPGs so that i can beat them, and get EVERY item in one felt swoop.
I bought Arc the Lad Collection a long time ago and i beat Arc 1 and was 15 hours into Arc 2...then one day, im one Gamefaqs, and i realize that i just missed a shitload of great items and now i got to beat Arc 1 again (when it comes to RPGs, i like to be a perfectionist) and then transfer the data from Arc 1 to Arc 2 and play Arc 2 again!
So you see, i dont use stradegy guides for the soul purpose of going through a game and not even try cause i got a stradegy guide, but to use them so i can beat this game and finish the game with perfection...
...How do you feel about stradegy guides?

I don't think they are cheating. Its not like u r going around the parameters set by the game. They're good reference guides to help u complete games.

no, youre not using any kind of hack/code to make it totally easy, their just telling you how to do it.

Not unless they have a "codes" or "secrets section"

Yeah, I kinda think so if it's your first time through. It's telling you what to prepare for. You're not supposed to know whats ahead if you never played the game.

no, if you have already tried do figure out what to do yourself. if you just use it to beat the game without trying anything yourself, then yes.

It tells you where to move each unit.

It all depends on the person, I use them only when I'm stuck, but if someone just went with the guide the entire time then I guess that would be cheating. So yes and no.

yeah, ^ then there's no point in the game except to brag that you beat the game.

I don't think using Stratagy guides is cheating. Also most of the guides I have are usefull for the maps which helps in RPG's or even Adventure type game. Stratagy guides are also useful for finding some of the items and subquest. Another good use it to find hints on how to beat a really hard boss or good places to gain experiance or training. Also most Stratagy guides don't go so much into the story so that you can enjoy it when you get to that part of the game.

My most memeorable strategy guide was the one I USED to have for Legend Of Zelda: OoT.
It contained EVERYTHING, but I really didn't need it until certain parts where I got stuck, and for finding the Gold Skulltulas.
The thing about Strategy Guides is, you can choose whether to use them to beat the game or to follow tough sidequests.
I believe that completely (Or at least mainly) following a strategy guide is cheating, and being too lazy to experience the game, but using it for difficult, non-plot-related sidequests and for a little help when you get stuck is fine, because how else would you ever get it done without wasting time and getting bored and mad?
