Ok, Silent_assassin and I have done some brainstorming.
We are no longer having members to fight as teams. All teams will have no significance when preparing for battle.
This is being done for several reasons.
It will be nearly impossible for all 3 team members to be on at once. It is much better if we allow 3 people to form teams as they see fit. This will allow to host games on a more frequent basis. Consider all members now to be freelancers.
For example, a DM will schedule a game and provide openings for two teams. Members will sign up on the spot, picking which team of freelancers they want to join. This is done on a first come first served basis. So pretty much, all members are now freelancers that will join teams as they see convenient. Once both teams are filled with three freelancing members each, the pre-battle phase will commence.
What are the benefits of this system?
1] First off, not all members of your team will be the same level. This adds more variety.
2] Secondly, players who play more will be have higher levels. With teams, players will gain levels much more slowly because they must wait for their entire team to participate in battle. If everyone is a free lancer, people can increase in levels far more competetively.
3] This will allow a broader range of trading. Now you can trade items with freelancers who join your temporary team for a battle. No longer are you restricted to waiting for your teammates to arrive in order to trade. However, this also adds strategy, because the temporary ally that you trade with today may be your enemy in the future! So take care trading with others.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with playing with your designated teammates. It's just no longer required, and I think people will grow tired of trying to wait and organize such things.
For now, consider your teams as honorary clans. Such as, "I fight to represent my team on an individual basis". If you keep that mindset, teams can continue to serve some form of purpose.
