OKKKKKKKKK Let me tell you a tale of the CHEAPEST TO:KOL battle EVER! Im playing oldschool with characters that are at least 4-5 levels lower, have crappy equipment compared to him, i kill all of his guys with only like 3 of my actual characters living, so he only has Rictor and a indestuctable Lich left (he would kill the Lich himself if i beat Rictor), so WHAT DOES HE DO, he sticks his rictor in the CORNER OF THE SCREEN WITH A BIG ASS ROCK BLOCKING THE OTHER WAY TO RICTOR! I didnt see this coming either (me=retard) so then he killed me......CHEAP! Can't admit defeat when you see it cant you Citan? lol

I know this doesn't pertain to the posts above mine, but I haven't weighed in yet with my opinion so here I go.
I think Square is slipping in quality of games without a doubt in my mind. In my opinion FFX was a bad game because the characters were the type I would love to kill and the plot licked balls(not to mention that Blitzball was an awful concept that made me cringe when I first heard about it). It now appears that FFXI has the potential to be a total disaster and it may kill the series. This is what happens when a company tries too much innovation with a good line of games. However, I don't just fault Square with this. It is widespread. All they are doing now is making the graphics as life-like as possible, but are forgetting something very important: GAMEPLAY!!!!!! Yes, they are forgetting the key element in games and in RPGs they are making them worse and worse with plots becoming more simplistic, fewer sidequests(to its credit FFX had a good amount), and, in FFX's case, bad characters. If I want to have life-like quality graphics, but not have gameplay, I WILL WATCH A F#@king MOVIE!!!! I was walking up and down the game aisles of a Best Buy near where I live and I could not find one game that I wanted to buy, and this includes PC games. This year I have only bought 4 games and some of them are around a year old. This is even way below 2001's YTD total at this time last year of around 9. There used to be years where I would buy 20 games. I bet that in the coming few years I will probably buy only around 2 games a year because that seems to be the extent of good games now.

Boy o boy! Son I think crack is finally enetering your bloodstream.....The bouncer was a great game. And square wants to try out new stuff. If you had a multi-million/billion company would you just keep making same type of games? I wouldn't, I'd go for different types and see how they go. Who knows....The games may be better, plus it will keep them wigers and shit who think they are cool becuase they listen to rap and play basketball saying that all final fantasy games are the same. Shit, They might even see a good commercial and start playing them.

Hmmm I dont think its fair to compare Chrono trigger to newer games as Chrono Trigger was made by square AND Enix....

Chrono Trigger was made just by Squaresoft.

Yes but it was also made by the team that made the Dragon Warrior games under Squaresofts name.

If you mean like Akira Toriyama, he was pretty much a "freelancer" and he was just a character designer (Pictures only), and Yuji Horii (creator of Dragon Quest)was just supervisor. Some of the team worked for them, but it wasn't really a joint project.

First The Bouncer was a really shitty game. Secondly, I don't understand what you are trying to say.

I haven't been on in a while, so here's my two cents.
First off, i'd like to agree that FFX was shitload of graphics w/o gamplay or plot. However, it seems to me that half the people of this board who consider themselves "classic gamers" completely shut out the idea of a game having good graphics. I'm willing to give FFXI a shot because i trust square. I read some of the articles and it seemed good. Also, I'd like to point out the difference between MMORPG and RPG. Popular RPGs may have over 100,000 people playing it at one time, worldwide. MMORPGs have more like 20,000 people playing it at a time. It's like visiting this message board. Once you start posting regularly, you feel you have to keep on posting every day. Everquest was like that, I expect FFXI to be like that too. I used to play Everquest, so i am used to the genre, and i say once again that it's like this message board. There are less than 400 users, but there is way more than enough posting at a time for someone to not have anything to do.

Im pretty sure that FF10 was decent, and actually an improvement, but i do admit it was not perfect. The only rpgs to reach perfection were Chrono Trigger and Cross, and im dead serious on that one. O and maybe Earthbound, but its a diff type of rpg, more modern etc. Still im not looking forward to FFXI, first of all i know cheating will run rampant in that game with gamesharks, and dont tell me it wont because no matter what you do people cheat. Second, i believe the whole hard drive+modem+Playonline service is gonna get costly and stupid. Its like just release it on computer and forget the PS2, ur making it into a desktop anyway.....geez i hate when companies do that. At least the DC had internet right out of the box...

Regarding graphics it's great if they can have good gameplay and graphics, but I would rather they tone down graphics and bring up the quality of gameplay. I am going to be perfectly honest here and this is not just stuff I'm making up to make my point. A lot of people when they got FFX were absolutley amazed at the graphics, but within a week most people who bought it stopped playing it and they said that it was boring and too short.

Exactly. And yeah, the whole "this'll cost over 200 bucks" is STUPID.

It impossible to directly contrast and compare games like Chrono Trigger and FF6 to FFX and new age games. It's like comparing apples and oranges. But I do agree that gameplay needs to improve. While FFX was innovative, it feels to me like something was missing; that something more was needed. I thought the plot was actually one of the best in quite a while, but Square did nothing to expand it or make it FF quality. The character development was not up to par. By the time the character reached the Thunder Plains, he/she would already be fed up with the character cuz they were so annoying. I swear the only good character was Auron.
I do believe that Square will learn from any mistakes they made or will make. Look at the FF movie. They tryed to milk the franchise, and look where it got them. Maybe if they would have put the same time and effort into FFX as they did the movie, it could have been really great.
