i'm 18 and i've been gaming since i was 5, i also agree that the video gaming industry has taken a turn for the worst in terms of graphics vs gameplay. back when i was growing up on a nintendo or super nintendo, if your game wasn't involving and long it wouldn't sell. no one even cared what the graphics were as long as you could tell the main character from a coin or forest square. i guess since consoles had to compete with what a computer was churning out for games, they took a step up in graphics which was at first nice (i remember star fox 64, mario 64, and blast corps) but eventually the focus shifted completely from "hey we finally finished working on that great game idea, now lets do the graphics" to "we have to make the character models for this game, can you have us a script and idea by tomorrow".
i'm very disappointed with the way the final fantasy series has gone. going back to ff3, i felt pure hatred for kefka when he killed people he promised he wouldn't, and i got absorbed into the mood of the game. now final fantasy is an interactive movie where you watch a cutscene and at the end some guy goes "meet me in the hallway" and you walk through a door and get another cut scene in the hallway. unfortunately the name has become all that keeps final fantasy alive. and the name will continue to keep it alive until people wake up to what's going on. final fantasy has always been a trendsetter for rpgs, but this time it's set a wrong trend. i bet if square were to secretly make an rpg in their current form and release it with a wierd name under a pseudo-company, it wouldn't do nearly as well as the same game named "final fantasy 12 by square" or even "square made this rpg, werd"
this is why i embrace my gba, it's taking a step backward to a time when you didn't have to worry about graphics purely because there was no reason to make them overly flashy. for the first time in i'd say 7 years, the gba absorbed me into countless games, the most being tactics ogre. i actually felt my eyes quiver when rictor died.

What I love about GBA is that they are remaking the "Oldies, but Goodies" for it and that is a relief to me.

I think ive found my new home!
I cant believe ive found a place where people agree that graphics dont make the game good, its the gameplay that counts. Many a person that i know only buy games based on the graphics, if i wanted pretty pictures to look at, id go watch a movie!
Im just glad to be a part of this Message board family!
