I created a board just to see how it works and stuff and I'm stumped here, how do you add extra groups?

Two ways:
Through the admin panel > Edit member groups, in the "Extra Groups" box add one per line. You can use HTML in there too.
OR
In the user's profile: Underneath the "Posts" box there's a "Position" box and a "Position (Create New)" box. The Create New box works just like the Extra Groups box in the admin panel.
By the by, once you add in a group through either the extra groups box or the create new box, it's available for everyone in the "position" box.
Edit: I believe you're on Proboards. I think this will also work with Conforums, Hyperboards, and Suddenlaunch, and YaBB. Invision and phpBB are a little different, but I can tell you how to do them too if you need it.

With the admin panel and one per line, do I write like 'group1' 'number of posts needed' ? Can u clarify that a bit?

Naw, the admin panel is for custom titles. You want to change the defaults from "Newbie" and the like, right? Then go into the admin panel (Again... =P), go into "Edit Member Groups", above the box I described earlier will be the default member groups. Edit those.
