Hey peoples. In my spare time, I've been working on re-engineering Tactics Ogre for the PC to get rid of boredom. I'm basically remaking Tactics Ogre for the PC, with a few added features/improvements such as custoarmy colors (as opposed to red/purple or blue/green), and possibly netplay if I get the project far enough. So far, I've managed to get down some basic systems (battle movement, organizing your army, a level editor), but I'm running into some problems when it comes to sprites; I don't have the time to rip them.
That's why I'm here. Just out of curiosity, would anyone be interested in ripping sprites from the game? It'd help me speed up the programming multiple times, since the process of sprite ripping and then fixing up is so time consuming. If anyone happens to have some free time and is interested, post here and let me know, and I'll get you specifications on what's needed/what needs to be modified for the sprites.
Thanks!

The only sprites I can offer are those on the website. Hopefully others can help you more.

There's probably more sprites on other websites, however, I've lost the links to them over the years. Should be there if you try googling them.

Thanks! :]
It actually turns out that the game loads the sprites into video memory contiguously, so I can probably just make a program to rip the sprites out and throw them on a sheet. The only problem I'm having now is tiles, since the game doesn't put them together normally; I'm thinking it might have the maps pre-drawn, then it just assigns tiles with elevations and such, which causes a bit of a problem for me.
The main problem with taking sprites from webpages is that they try to compress them, and it offsets the colors a bit, so the color replacement system can't find the default blue/green colors to replace with the new colors.

From my knowledge the tiles seem to be in the background as static and sprites move about them. You should be able to find them pre-drawn and solid.

Yeah. In the SNES/PSX Tactics Ogre game (I can't seem to remember what it's called.. Let us Cling Together?), each tile was a cube and it just kept drawing the tile cubes to make up the level. In the GBA game, the levels aren't done like that; instead, they're drawn (they aren't assembled as individual blocks) and then split into tiles for the units to move on.. For example, one' tile' could be made of pieces of three different sprites, as opposed to just being one whole image. Anyway, I took some time and did a sprite template.. I think I have everything. If I'm missing something, I'd appreciate it if someone pointed it out. img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/6/11/4/f_unittemplatm_d3757de.pngFrom top to bottom: Walking 1 Walking 2 Walking 3 Walking 4 Attacking 1 Attacking 2 Attacking 3 Attacking 4 Hurt 1 Hurt 2 Hurt 3 Hurt 4 Using 1 Using 2 Using 3 Using 4 And then it repeats for the unit being in water.

That template is pretty cool of the character actions. That makes sense about the tiles and is about what I thought. I'm glad you were able to figure out the sprite modeling and maps. If you take images of each map, I would love to put them in the map section to complete it. Right now I have 5 or so levels. Good luck with your project. If you need any more assistance just ask.

Sounds cool, I don't know how you do it. Did you get him finding buried treasure? Or is the treasure a sprite and the sprite of him standing a little low with is hands together him grabing the treasure bags? And how will you get sprites for weapons?

Thank you. I'm still looking into a way to get the sprites ripped faster; it takes me about an hour per sheet, manually. I may just look up VBA's source code and recode it to output all the OAMs to bitmaps, as opposed to me going through and pulling each one out.
I'm considering looking into the SNES Tactics Ogre's tile scheme, to see if it will match up with the GBA game's. If it does, I may just use it's tiles and recreate the areas, since it makes everything a lot more flexible for future changes. Taking the images of the areas and tiling them, however, would be far less painful on the CPU and possibly faster when it comes to area creation, though the layers might pose a minor problem.. I'll have to put a bit more thought into which I'll go with. I know for certain that ripping the level images will be no problem, though.
I just double checked, and the units use the casting/using items animation (crouched, then arms up) for finding an item. The treasure is a sprite.
I'm going to be ripping out the weapon OAMs and assembling them to a sprite sheet, then storing the order/offsets to display the weapon sprites at for each different class.
