Not too long ago...I was finishing off another run-through of FFVI, when a wave of dejavu came over me while I switched teams, back and forth, through the final dungeon.
It was the switching of teams bit, within FFVI, that flashed me back to another game in which the player controlled two parties...another game I had played in the long, long ago...
So why am I hear now?
That "other" game has been in my head lately, like a bad tune, and I'd like some help trying to figure out what the title to it is, in hopes that I might pick it up and play it again.
What little I can remember...is that there was a hero and his team/party of characters. Too...there was another party of characters which was secondary to the heroes team. During game play, in order to advance, yes, obviously the player had to alternate between the two teams.
Not much to go on, I know. A few last detail,...I think the secondary party characters were called something which began with the letter "K." I want to say "Kazons," but I'm pretty sure that's a star trek reference which came to mind when I tried to pull up the "K" I am reaching for.
Lastly, the hero might have been named Ryu or some such. Or is Ryu a hero within an altogether different game?
Can anyone help?
Thanks for listening...

Was just in a gaming chat-room. I am told that Ryu is the hero within one or more breath of fire games. As to whether or not any of the BoF games featured multiple parties...I haven't a clue. It's been too long since I've played any of the BoF's...

I don't know about anything beyond BoF 1. As for switching teams, Wild Arms comes to mind but thats more in the beginning. Earthbound also required you to switch to a bunch of different characters. Maybe Golden Sun the Lost Age? I really don't know.
EDIT: Oh I think it might be Tales of Symphonia. You had to switch to characters in two different worlds a ton.

After quite a bit of searching, I now am convinced that the game is either on the SNES system, or the Genesis system...ah well, more searching.

Okay...the final tally regarding this thread:
I am now, for the most part, convinced that the game I am looking for must be Breath of Fire IV. During game play, I have discovered (via Gamefaqs and RPGClassics) that the player switches between Ryu (and his party, I assume), and Fou Lu (and his party, I assume).
Two minor annoyances, however.
First, is the fact that I obviously have a false memory in thinking that the secondary party (lead by Fou Lu) was named something that started with a "K." My memory still supports the "K" deal, but I'll just ignore it.
Second, is the fact that I have my Playstation, and every game I had and have for it, boxed up. I opened that box today, and there is no Breath of Fire IV, nor do I have any memory of buying and/or playing the game (let alone getting rid of it)...despite the fact that I have a few parts of it in my memory nestled near to the "K" thing. I am choosing to ignore that too, heh.
Thanks for hearing me out. I am heading back, now, to my GBA in order to fight the good fight. Tomorrow I'll order up a copy of BOF IV.

I know! You are talking about Tecmo Secret of the Stars! There is the Hero party, the Aqutallion Warriors, and the non-hero party, Kustera. You can switch between the two as you like, there are some places only the Heroes can access and others only Kustera can.
On a side note, the Hero's name is Ray, not Ryu

see? this is why i love gaming forums.
anyway, i have one of my own. it was a psx game, very very low-name, a tactical rpg. i dont remember much beyond that, but i remember playing it after i got on my first rpg "binge" around 98 or 99. i remember not liking it much, but back then i didnt know anything about tactics. i would really love to try it again.
kartia comes to mind, but whether or not it WAS kartia im not sure. i know, at the very least, it came out around the same time as kartia, and i dont think i ever did play kartia.
on that note...how WAS kartia?
