Which do you prefer, spells or swords? And what is your favorite class? Your least favorite?
I myself prefer magic to melee, and my favorite class would probably have to be the Warlock, because they are a lovely combination of both, and have access to Support magic. My least favorite is the Siren; they are a huge tease. They have access to summons, missile magic and AoE offensive magic, but their speed is so god-awful the only thing they'll ever be hitting with is the AoE magic.
Now, while on the subject of Magic vs. Melee, I actually did a little something to see which was stronger. Using cheat devices, I purchased one of every human/meta-human player available class in the game at level 30. One soldier, one ninja, one archer, etc etc, though I bought two angel knights, one of each gender. I noticed that there are only 8 magic classes available to the player, but 15 melee classes, hence why I bought two angel knights, so I first put together a melee battle. Soldier, Ninja, Archer, Knight, Dragoon, Swordmaster, Valkyrie, and Beast Tamer vs. Dragon Tamer, Hawkman, Mermaid, Fairy, Gremblin, Gorgon, and the two angel knights. I didn't plan on sitting around watching the fight forever, so I decided first to lose three party members loses. Team one lost their archer, swordmaster, and beast tamer very quickly, and lost.
Then, I put the winning melee team against the magic team. Each member of the melee team had their preferred weapon type's strongest weapon of their element, plate-mail, and either a plumed headband or an iron helm, and absolutely no spells, just their classes natural abilities. Each member of the magic team had the staff of their element, and robe of their element, and an amulet. The magic team consisted of a wizard, a cleric, a siren, a warlock, a witch, a priest, a lich, and a ghost. I decided to watch this one out to the finish.
I was surprised with the result, expecting the melee team to win over the magic team poor defenses and need to recharge, but the magic team came out on top, losing only one member; the Siren, who was too slow to dodge any attacks. Three of them, the two angel knights and the fairy, had been hit by the wizards petrifying cloud, the mermaid had been obliterated by the priests divine radiance, and the Gorgon had been the last one standing until the ghost took her out.
Now, I'm not saying that magic will always prevail, but the fact they only lost one member makes me appreciate the might of magic, ha ha ha. Just thought I'd share that.
