Even though some of these games are pretty good, a game would have to be SO good for me to pay monthly for it that i voted NO. It's just not worth it for me. Starcraft, warcraft, and diablo, i'm pretty sure all dont make you pay monthly and they're awesome IMHO. World of Warcraft looks great but... i'm still not going to get it if I need to pay every month. I don't think my parents would let me anyhow, i have better stuff to do w/ my money.

MMORPGS are more-so addictive than they are good. As it was said, they're normally played for the competition. I know this because I used to play UO, myself. Started around when it first came out, and I quit when the price inflated just a few months ago. It's a very addictive game, but after you become developed with your characters, it quickly gets boring. I think I at least had every class GMed(grandmastered) at least once. Ah well, It's a mixed bag for me, worth it for a few months, but then you're just paying it because you don't want to lose all the stuff you built up. =/

The Ultima series spans for many many games. I've never tried it myself but I hear Ultima Online is very good, what's it like?

Some are worht paying to play them while others aren't... a MMORPG like The 4th Coming is really worth it, trust me! Ragnarok Online too, but still, less than T4C however...
I'm sure there are many more that must be worth it, but I'm not very knowledgeable, as I have only played a few of them...

I agree with dymlos about them being more addictive than good. I often play one for ghours on end and realize I'm not actually having fun. I'd rather play Halo, WCIII, or BF1942 online for free anyway.

Well, if you want to learn more about UO, try www.ultimaonline.com/ , or uo.stratics.com/ . Don't get me wrong, I did like UO, it just became boring after a while, because as much stuff as they tote you being able to do, it all gets boring after a while. I don't know, I might get back into UO. But that's a different story altogether.

I still think that its mostly a waste of money to pay a monthly fee because after a few months you've already paid more in fees than the original game might've cost you...

You can always find a free Korean MMO in beta form. As long as your gutsy enough to forge a Korean social security number (I guess my friends are official terrorists now). I never liked MMOs anyway. It seems to me the non Massive but regular multiplayer modes of similar games are usually better. And as I said if your stingy you could go with the Korean thing.

Maybe I'll try one out. I am ashamed to say I actually payed for Ragnarok online for a month. You get so attached to your character its hard to stop. It seems like alot of the fun is thinking about the potential your character has and what they will do. But then you get there and realize its not that great and start looking forward to the next step.

Ooo, dead post, but caught me eye ;D It really depends on the quality you want in your gaming experience, ya you can go for free multiplayer games like Diablo 2 and Starcraft, but if lets say somehting happens to your D2 uber powerful charecter, that you worked hard as heck for, and it dissappears, or shows as a lvl 1 assassin by the same name (that has actually happened to me =( ), theres nothing you can do, you just lost all your work. Now, lets say you pay the 12 bucks for Everquest, ya, not really that much, 12 bucks, hour and a half work. Now, say your little brother feels like deleting your main charecter, guess what? that charecter is still in the Everquest databanks for 30 days! you can say "hey, um, accidentally lost my char, help?" and BAM there ya go, your charecter is back. To address hackers... well, in EQ there are NO hackers for more then about 30 seconds before they are caught and banned, also, if someone gets your password without your permission and gives all your stuff to joe shmoe_01 then the GM's can take a look at your trade file, find Joe, and ban him, and allowing you a change of username and password. It all depends on weather you want security and quality over ... out of the box, alot like ISP's, to go free? or pay 10 bucks a month for good service. Also, about getting bored with MMORPGs ... again, depends on what game you get, there are some out there that are just for the lazy man *coughSWGcough* and then there is Everquest, the game ive played for what? 5 years now, and i still havent gotten bored, alot more then i can say for UO, ya, its kinda addictive, but not so much that the game itself is keeping you from leaving, but more the people you meet and become friends with that keep you there month after month, heck, most of the enjoyment of the game comes from hanging out with my friends, and not chasing down Mob_01 or Phat Lewt_01. So, in closing, yes some MMORPG's are worth it, but you really should try the free trial before judging them. Heck, if any of you try the game tell me, I would be willing to introduce you to some people, and the coolest guild on E'ci <Random Insanity>

Heck, if any of you try the game tell me, I would be willing to introduce you to some people, and the coolest guild on E'ci <Random Insanity> Heh, this is a great thread, and I can see reasons for both ways.. but... me and my cheap self will stick to what I (that's capitilized, like I used the caps lock... grr... it looks the same anyway... but just understand that it's EMPHASIS on I...) am willing to do, and that is, NOT pay for MMRPG's. I mean, that reasoning is sound and fine and all for d2, even if arguably you pay a LOT more for only a slightly better deal (IMO of course, heh.) But what about those people (me, myself, I, and a few other unimportant people) who prefer to play games where you DON'T build up characters? You mentioned Starcraft yourself, in that game you can't really lose anything! and IMO of course, it's much more fun than EQ for the price paid. I mean consider this, I bought starcraft when it was like what, $45? Even there I'm being very generous. You bought EQ at say $12, within LESS THAN HALF A YEAR, you already paid more than me. For every MONTH you continue your paying ANOTHER $10 OVER what I already paid for SC, yet I feel I'm having atleast as much fun. Even on d2 you can halfway make this argument. Of course if your angry about losing such a high level character, you should either be 1) Dedicated enough to the game because you love it that you'll make a new one. 2) Realizing that now that you already made a great character and too lazy to make a new one, it probably wasn't that fun to play anymore anyhow, so just get another cheap game. Where you can thrive in a NEW place, learn new stuff in a better game, and probably (since I doubt anyone would be able to not only make, but have the luck[unluckiness] to lose that high level haracter in half a year) still spend less money than if you were spending the time equivalently in EQ. I agree about a lot of enjoyment coming from hanging out with friends you meet... I don't quite understand your argument on how EQ is better for that though? If your talking about people changing accounts its easily solved by me because 1) I usually NEVER change my name, although I do occasionally make BS new names, just for fun. 2) If the people who change their accounts don't bother to contact me afterward and tell me, then we probably aren't too good friends anyhow.

the account name change was for if someone (and this is a rarity in itself) got your account name and password without your permission, just a step to make sure it doesnt happen again is all. I wasnt trying to say "EQ is better then D2 or Starcraft" i was mearly trying to say that EQ is a higher quality game, and in the long run will bring you more enjoyment. Ofcourse, im speaking from personal experience. Iv played both Starcraft and Diablo 2, and love both, played both alot, heck, i got an assasin that can kill Diablo on Hell setting with her arms tied behind her back. The point im trying to make is, i played Diablo 2 and starcraft for maybe a year before eventually getting bored or its repetitiveness, however, i have been playing Everquest for close to 5 years now, and still havent reached the same point as i did with Starcraft and Diablo 2. Frankly, comparing those games to each other isnt really fair, for Everquest (being that it costs 12.50 a month and is the most emersive game yet) would prolly better fall under the catagory of a hobby. Or heck, you could go so far to call it a members on Interactive Chatroom where you can meet others with similar intrest in games, Lol! Thats going pretty far though
