Hey, fellow EQ addict. I support your cause, hehe.
I am a very active EQ player, but i can never settle on a character. At one point, after having tried every decent race and class combination (gnome warriors excluded), i was ready to quit. I cancelled my account, and EQ stopped the billing. I deleted EQ from my computer, and began playing other games. 5 months later, i decided to go back. I reactivated my account key, and logged on, and my characters were still there. The point is, EQ is not a game made by a company, it's a game run by a company. It IS higher quality than D2 or starcraft. WoW has a chance to be of equal or higher quality, but unless they invent a good system like the Gamemasters in EQ it will not be.
BTW, I play on Innoruuk. <The Renegades>

Well I understand very well that EQ is definitely a higher quality game than D2 and... POSSIBLY even SC (heh, i'm an SC addict don't mind me), like you I realize that, and that it comes at a cost, unlike you however, the cost just doesn't make up for me, the gains that you get. I wouldn't classify it as a hobby, I'd classify it as a computer game. Computer games do not make good hobbies, although they do make good games . While it may bring you more enjoyment than a great game such as SC, your argument on a company running the game isn't just applied to EQ, blizzard and other companies often make patches for games, especially if they're online, and on starcraft they made an exceptional number. Accounts are not THAT big of a problem on Starcraft (although they are on d2, and other RPG's). Actually, I'm not even sure if we should be argueing with each other because EQ is an MMRPG, and starcraft is a strategy game, completely different considering that accounts don't mean nearly as much in stategy games as they do in EQ, and our opinions of which will bring more quality over time is probably also linked to our... predisposal to what type of games we enjoy more. Heck, if starcraft made me pay monthly fees I'd probably have done it, but I definitely wouldn't have stayed on as long as I have. On a somewhat on-topic subject, I'm interested in what else you are all thinking about on World of Warcraft? It looks really good...

... Good point... it is kinda pointless to argue over which is better (alot like religions......). so, as the saying goes - Agree to disagree? =P
as for WoW, well, iv "heard" the hype about it, but personally im not gunna play it, i refrain from playing any MMORPG soon after it comes out, mostly cause of bugs that surely haunt the game (and yes, no matter the skill of the company, there will always be bugs). heh, even SWG had so many bugs when it first came out, if i remember correctly, there were about 10 times as many posts in the first week or so, then EQ had ever had ... (creepy...), but, mabe in a couple months or so i'll see if they have a trial period and test it out
Btw, last touch on EQ. They give you a 30 day trial period or so for free, so, you can try it, and if ya dont like it you can quit, no money paid =).

A good MMORPG can keep you busy for years if you let it so in that sense, if you arent board of it, you dont need to buy any other games so that makes up for the price. WoW is going to be the first pay-2-play game I'm going to experience. I played runescape for a little here and there in the past two years to get the feel of MMORPGS. I'm really excited for WoW. For Diablo 2 lovers who want to try out an MMORPG, try out Redmoon at www.redmoon-online.com, the fighting is just like D2 and you level up quickly. The highest level in the game is level 1000. It's a free download but you have to pay around $6 a month after 10 days. Try it out for 10 days, it's sweet. Another thing I like in my MMORPgS is being able to gain levels quickly. I tried Dark Age of Camelot and takeing 20 minutes to get to level 2 and 4 hours to get from level 5 to 6 isn't very appealing to me.

The EQ system of leveling is erratic. Lvl 1 flies by in less than 5 minutes, but lvl 2 takes more time than lvl 3 or 4 combined. Your skills haven't caught up to the fighting at that point, and exp is minimal. Kind of annoying. My favorite thing about EQ is the variety. If you're sick of farming the Paludal Caverns, for instance, which are filled with bandits and poisonous alien things, you can take a trip to the Estate of Unrest, which is an ancient mansion filled with the undead.

ack... almost forgot about this thread =P... it lives! ...
Anyways, ya, a bit sporadic, but remember, lvl 1 you are fighting even creatures, lvl 2, you are fighting for less Exp with roughly the same skill, so, a bit slower. 3 and 4 is same as 2, but you kick everythings arse pretty fast. While i know alot about Paludal Caverns, cant say iv ever really hunted there, "growing up" i was a Kurns Tower and Lake of Ill Omen kinda guy, back when 4 lvls in your teens on one evening of hunting was awsome, unlike PC which is what? 10 or so lvls in one evening =P, sheesh you new kids are spoiled rotten, and now you got full sense heading, aye aye aye aye aye, and to top that off ya get a bag at starting... sorry, dont mind this ole guys ranting ;D
*sigh* guess is should let it die huh? *sniffle* ok... i promised myself i wouldnt cry ... *sniffle* .... *turns and walks out the door*

What I hate is having no idea where to go. An example would be Dark Age of Camelot, it's very unlinear. I also dont like games where when you reach a certain level, you have to no matter what be in a group to get a decent amount of experience. That hurts the casual players who play the game an hour here and an hour there.

o... so you thought this thread was dead? well.. it isnt! mwahahaha Casual gamers (Myself excluded, cause i aint one =P) have the ability to solo, but that gets really boring, trust me, the reason its MMORPG is to "Promote" gaming together, would you log onto Bnet and fight 7 comps on starcraft? no, you would play the single player =P Recently wth the addition of Lost Dungeons of Norrath expansion they created instance dungeons, 1 group goes in, and groups are fairly easy to get when "casual gamers" are on. these dungeons allow 1 group (up to 6 people) to enter a dungeon all thier own, with an objective (Mass kill, collect items, Assassinate, or rescue). they have 30 minutes after getting the adventure to get to thier little dungeon, and once in they have 90 minutes to finish it. Most groups can be done with the whole think in 45 - 60 minutes easy, they get nice loot, decent cash, and points towards loot of thier choice. Ya, again you "can" go soloing, just need to be the right class for it to be effective (and Solo Exp is SOOOO much better then group, just a bit slower), for example - A warrior isnt good at soloing, thier HP regen SUCKS. where as if you were a druid you could snare kite (Snare - slows mobs run/walk speed. Kiting - After snaring a mob put as many damage over times as possible on it and just casually run it in circles till it dies, may need to recast DoTs and snare mid kite). this can kill about 1 or 2 mobs every 15 minutes. or. Or, another way to be that odd kid in the corner on the playground is to be a Magician (I can personally vouch for the odd man out part of this class =P). In-depth with Magicians - Magicians of Norrath are master of Conjuring and of the elements themselves. Giving them the ability to summon forth 1 of 4 types of elementals to aid in thier battles - Fire - Water - Wind - Earth - these mixed with thier innate ability to cast powerful spells makes them a very formidable foe in combat. along with casting powerful spells and pets the Magician is also know as Norrath's Vending Machine, summinong anything from food and water to Arrows and swords. that said, a mage can heal and buff his pet, making it a mini tank, and him a mediocre healer, for many a lvl i soloed this way, until i found out how to chain pet (not going into it). Another thing for the "Casual gamer" is a thing called a Guild. thats a group of people usually on around the same time that hang out together. In one of these you can log on for an hour, instantly join your guildies, then log off an hour later, getting in your grouping for the day, and still being a casual gamer =) so, there ya have it... and did you think i was done yet? o no no no, not nearly, but closer then i was when i started this _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- ok, while on the subject of MMORPG, i recently found this site (seems a bit slow *shrug*) Www.Warhammeronline.comI dont know if anyone here plays the Tabletop wargame "Warhammer Fantasy" or the pencil and Paper "Warhammer RPG". This is based off those, and due in the summer of 04. Just wondered if anyone else had seen this or if anyone was interested in it. ok, now im done..... i think, lemme double check here.... ok, got that.... mentioned that.... didnt make fun of any other games this time..... mentioned that.... berated self class there.... yup, think i got everything, Night everyone =) *EDIT* OMG that was more then i thought! Holy crap... sorry everyone =P
